Peace Lutheran Church

Jesus says,
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”
Matthew 18:20

God’s vision for Peace is to be a community that is healthy. A healthy community has spiritual, physical, emotional, financial, mental, and social health grounded in God. This means cultivating healthy relationships among members of the family, neighborhood, faith community, larger community, and world.

Here are some of the ministries for adults at Peace (find more information and sign up Sunday mornings at the Koinonia Corner, a table meant to help people participate more fully in the life and ministry of the church).

Learning and Fellowship Opportunities

Adult Education on Sundays
Every Sunday morning at 9:45 am during the Faith Education Hour, there is an adult educational offering, including Bible studies and topical forums. Come, learn, and grow in faith!
Community Bible Study Wednesdays in the school year 6:15 pm
The study takes place in the Conference Room upstairs and is open to all. We explore the upcoming Sunday’s scripture readings. Led by Pastor John and others. Come, share, grow in faith!
Conversations Around Race
An ecumenical group that meets in a space of grace for conversation around race and racism with the purpose of growing awareness, confronting the effects of racism, bridging difference, building relationships, and living as community in Christ.
Men’s Ministry
Ministry with and for men in the congregation and community. See Small Groups: Men’s Breakfast Fellowship.
Women’s Ministry
The women’s ministry of the church. Women’s Bible Study is the second Thursday of each month at 10 am at the church. An annual Women’s Retreat brings women together for Bible study, fellowship, growing in faith, and having fun!

Serving Opportunities

Administrative Assistance
A volunteer ministry helping prepare and mail letters and publicity, collate and file information, and provide help in the church office. If you would like to serve in this way, contact the Office Coordinator.
A team that lifts up issues and concerns before the congregation to encourage lifting up our voices on behalf of the marginalized in our world and seeking justice by writing letters and communicating with local and national leaders in power. Our work follows the acronym LEAP: Learning about issues of justice, Educating others, Advocating leaders, and Praying for God’s mercy and justice.
Affordable Housing
Meet regularly to implement the vision of using the two homes purchased by the church for affordable housing for two neighborhood families, with services through the church and center. Peace has two Family Support Teams to journey alongside both families living in the houses.
Care Package Team
We send care packages to college students from our church and the Hilltop Scholars program several times a year. Packages contain hand-made cards, goodies and decorations, as well as practical supplies. Everyone is welcome to help put our packages together. It is a night of fun and laughter for those creating them. If you can’t come but want to contribute, you can help pay for postage or drop off small, light, and inexpensive items.
Community Development Team
This team meets to consider how God is calling us as a congregation forward in community development—walking with individuals, families, and our community and offering a hand up with dignity and justice, more than a hand out, toward greater wholeness and health.
Finance Team
A team that guides the church in the best use of finances for its mission.
Health Ministry
This ministry tends to the physical health needs of the community, including lifting up health and fitness information and offering health tips.
Liturgical Arts
A ministry of creating banners and art to enhance worship in the sanctuary.
Social Justice Ministry
A social justice ministry of reflection and action, seeking justice on behalf of the hungry, impoverished, and marginalized in the world and local community.
Stewardship Team
This team challenges and encourages the congregation to use gifts of Time, Talent, and Treasure in service to God in the world.
Sunday Breakfast and Refreshments
Each week on Sunday there is a breakfast served before Sunday School starts. Various families volunteer to cook breakfast on a rotational schedule. All are invited and welcome to eat. After 11 am worship, individuals sign up to provide refreshments for a fellowship time.
Van Drivers
The Peace Lutheran Church van is a ministry for our church attendees who need or prefer to receive a ride from home. This service is available for families, the elderly, children, and anyone else who wants a ride. Volunteer drivers rotate weekly.
