Peace Lutheran Church

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

Children’s ministry at Peace Lutheran Church helps children understand God’s unconditional love for them in Jesus, shares God’s love and encourages children to grow spiritually, cultivates caring relationships with adults who pass on the faith, and gives children opportunities to serve their community. Our desire is that every young person feels welcome, safe, and loved.

Regular Events

Sunday School, Sundays from 9:45-10:45 am
Godly Play is a class for children ages 3 through 4th grade. Godly Play opens children up to experience the wonder of God’s love expressed in Bible stories and to respond with creativity and reflection. In the summer, children meet together on Sunday mornings for a Bible-based activity time.
Children’s Worship Time, Sundays during 11 am worship
After the scripture readings in the sanctuary, children are invited to follow the children’s worship leader into a different space where they experience a child-oriented mini worship service with a short message, prayer time, and collection of offering. Children return to the sanctuary in time to participate in Holy Communion.
Sunday Morning Nursery Care, Sundays during 11 am worship
For children ages four and under, our Nursery Attendant provides a safe, warm, caring, and playful environment in the Nursery (in the church basement).
Kids at Peace, Fridays from 4–5:30 pm during the school year
A time of growing in faith for children with fun activities, stories, and games to break open God’s Word and share the love of Jesus.

Special Events

FaithQuest Summer Children’s Bible Program
Five weeks in late June through July, Mondays & Wednesdays, 4–4:45 pm
In conjunction with the Peace Community Center Summer Elementary Academy, we offer a fun and engaging Bible study at the church for all elementary kids. Children do not need to be part of the Summer Academy to attend. Using skits, puppets, drama, songs, activities, and games, adult leaders help children learn more about God and grow in faith. Past themes include “The Fruit of the Spirit” and “What Is Peace?” Children’s and youth ministry staff and Pastor John take a big role in this program bridging the church, the Peace Community Center, and our neighborhood.
Family Day at Peace Community Celebration
A Sunday Afternoon in August, 12:30-3pm

Friends and neighbors of Peace gather for a Family Day at Peace (in place of a Block Party). Free food, fellowship, fun, & community connections! Free school supplies!
Summer Bible Adventure (also known as Vacation Bible School)
Third week of August Monday- Friday, 5-8 pm, Paul’s Adventures in Rome!
Kids of all ages and families, come for a Bible-times adventure! Start by sharing a meal. Enjoy fun activities. Learn about God’s love for us in Jesus! Join a small group and experience life as it was during the time of Paul and the early church. Visit Paul’s Bible-time house and hear his stories. Visit marketplace shops with pottery, music, and food. Witness a drama every evening. Free! Register your child and come! Many youth and adult volunteers make this happen!
Children’s Christmas Program
Third Sunday in December, 11 am worship
Children rehearse several times to prepare to share in word, drama, and song the amazing story of God choosing to come among us as a person in Jesus, a baby born in Bethlehem, to know us, love us, and save us!
Family Nights
Some themes have been Harvest Festival/Trunk or Treat, Easter Eggs and Stories, Movie Night, Game Night, Bible Bingo, Storytelling, and Science Fair. It’s always FREE, and it’s always a great time for families!
