Peace Lutheran Church

The Apostle Paul writes,
“As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.”
Colossians 3:12

God’s vision for Peace is to be a community that is compassionate. Compassion means being nonjudgmental and inclusive of all people and reaching out in care to help those who are vulnerable, struggling, or suffering. Compassion includes ministries to those not yet part of the worshiping community (outreach). We reach out to our neighbors with the love of God and invite people to experience God through worship and the life of the Peace community. We seek to be a presence of hope and peace in the Hilltop community where neighbors feel they are cared for and are a part of the Peace family. We see our neighborhood as our parish.

Ambassadors for Christ
Members of Peace reach out to our neighbors with God’s love. They make visits door to door, pass out fliers in the neighborhood, do sidewalk ministry, serve as ushers, and offer welcome and information at the Koinonia Corner.
Door to Door Calling
Join Brendan Nelson, Pastor Plaehn, & Pastor John calling on Hilltop neighbors and extending the love of Jesus and an invitation to Peace. Members of Peace go out and introduce ourselves and the ministries of Peace to our neighbors. We prayerfully meet to discuss where we are going that day, go out and knock on doors, then come back to report to the group whom we’ve met and how it went. We pray for all the people we meet that day and trust God to continue to provide them with what they need.
Sidewalk Ministry Wednesdays 1–2 pm in the summer
Join a group that hangs out in front of our church sign on the corner of 21st and Cushman with free cookies and lemonade for passersby. Meet neighbors, share conversations, personally invite people to church and upcoming activities.
Van Ministry
Providing van rides to church on Sundays. Interested parties need to call the church office then dial * (star or asterisk) then 120 to reach the van line. Please remember to leave your name, address, time of service you would like to attend, and phone number (in case we need to contact you). Call at least by the Saturday before because drivers check messages early Sunday morning before going out their route.
Peace Community Center Programs
Peace Community Center was birthed by Peace Lutheran Church in 1996 and is the church’s first partner in outreach to our Hilltop neighborhood. Peace Community Center serves children, youth, and families of the Hilltop with tutoring, mentoring, support, and encouragement for youth to reach their God-given potential. With mission sites at McCarver Elementary School, Jason Lee Middle School, and the Church/Center main facility at 21st and S. Cushman, Peace Community Center serves children from second grade through high school and beyond, supporting them in post-secondary education and training.

This is our end of summer celebration and it’s a great time to fellowship with neighbors! Free food, fellowship, fun, & community connections! Free school supplies!
Holiday Bazaar
A once a year event that brings together members of our congregation and the community. Items are donated for sale at the bazaar. The low prices and large variety of items makes this a popular event in our neighborhood. Proceeds go to the Emergency Assistance Fund.
