Communities in Nepal are facing catastrophic loss after deadly devastating floodwaters swept through the Himalayas. Many have died, homes have been destroyed, and entire communities are struggling to access basic necessities. Lutheran Disaster Response has long-standing relationships with trusted partners throughout Nepal. With your help, we stand ready to support emergency relief and long-term recovery through these established partners who know their communities best. Join Brendan Nelson and Shelley Maebori as we learn about loving and following Jesus together in community. We will share meals together and work in teams to study and practice Discipleship on Saturday, October 24, 9- 1 am; Sunday, November 15, 12-2 pm. Play games (and earn prizes!), complete challenges, study scripture, and grow in faith. Childcare is provided. Space is limited, so be sure to sign up early! Questions? Call/text Shelley Maebori.

This past year women of Peace participated in four manuscript Bible studies on Luke’s Gospel. We are continuing our study of Luke starting in September. Meeting times will be about 2 hours twice a month. If you participated last year, contact Leigh and jump back into a Bible study! If you haven’t had a chance to join a Bible study but want to now, contact Leigh! Starts the week of September 14.

Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for Alan Kies
We will gather at Peace Lutheran Church Saturday September 26 at 10:30 am for a memorial service to give thanks to God for the life of Alan Kies and hear words of comfort and hope in God to help us in our grief. A reception with food and fellowship will follow in the multipurpose room. Please keep Allison and family and our whole community in your prayers.

Community Bible Study
Starting October 1, Pastor John facilitates a Community Bible Study in the church Conference Room and online on Teams (your choice) Thursdays 1-2 pm on the scripture readings for worship the following Sunday. We read scripture, share conversation, and pray as we listen for God to speak to us and through us. Email Pastor John for Teams link.

Meet the Neighbors & Get the Word Out
Sunday October 4 meet after worship (about 12:30 am) in the multipurpose room, get organized, grab church fliers, and go into the neighborhood to meet the neighbors, share an invitation to connect, and build relationships. We continue the long-time Peace tradition of door to door calling. Bring your own lunch to eat before we go out. Questions? Ask Pastor John.

In challenging and uncertain times, God invites us to see and experience God’s boundless generosity, give thanks for the gifts God gives us, and reflect that generosity through our own lives. On October 11, 18, and 25 in worship and in Sunday faith education at 9:45 am for adults, through Bible study, reflection, and personal stories, we’ll look at how, as good stewards of God’s generous gifts, we practice generosity and gratitude in all seasons of our lives.

This nonpartisan guide offers daily Scripture, reflection, and prayer to help us seek truth with integrity, pursue justice with compassion, and become people of peace and reconciliation. We will share the guide Sunday September 27, and together we will ask God to shape our votes, our words, our listening, and our love for our neighbors with wisdom, courage, healing, and hope.

The For a Time Such As This small group at Peace Lutheran Church invites you to place a lit candle (preferably electronic) in a window of your home every evening as a spiritual exercise of faith and commitment to the cause of the Gospel. We do this to bear witness the whole night through that the light of Christ shines in the darkness and darkness cannot and will not overcome it (John 1:5). In a world often overshadowed by oppression and cruelty, lighting the Christ candle is a powerful act of hope. Read more here.

Children’s Choir
We’re putting Kids First! Our music ministry invites you and your children to stay after 11 am worship (grab snacks first!) twice a month so kids can spend an hour singing unto the Lord and preparing to share their gifts the first Sunday of each month at 11 am worship. Rehearsals will typically be 3rd & 4th Sundays.

We are working on ways to be intentionally inclusive and equitable within our church community and beyond. The Anti-Racism Work Group has developed this anti-racism toolkit to allow all of us to explore concrete ways to weave anti-racist practices into our church life. Children’s Worship
Children’s Worship is offered in person during 11 am (10 am in summer) worship. Children are invited to the basement classroom (with air purification) after the scripture readings for a special Godly Play Bible story and response time, and then they will return to the sanctuary to join their family for the time of Holy Communion.

We have been asking, as followers of Jesus, how is God calling us to do God’s work, to love God and love our neighbor, at this time and in this place? A foundational commitment to anti-racism and a group of recommendations have arisen from this Future Directions discernment process. Please pray for our church as we seek to live out these Future Directions, and please consider how you will “get in where you fit in.”

- Peace Community Center is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization through an exciting season of rebuilding, growth, and renewed community engagement. The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors, Hilltop residents, community partners, and Peace Lutheran Church to implement the organization’s strategic plan and help guide Peace Community Center into its next chapter.
- This is an opportunity for a relational, entrepreneurial, and community-centered leader who can build trust, cultivate partnerships, strengthen organizational systems, lead fundraising efforts, and help translate community wisdom into mission-aligned action.

Summer Late Nights: Free Hangouts and Dinner for Tacoma Teens
Tacoma Public Schools middle and high schoolers will have a free place to get dinner and hang out with friends every weeknight this summer starting June 26. Summer Late Nights opens across Tacoma, with schools, community centers and non-profits opening their doors to keep teens safe and engaged.
